CSET: Foundational-Level Mathematics
(Effective until December 28, 2014)
The Commission on Teacher Credentialing adopted revised Subject Matter Requirements (SMRs) for CSET: Mathematics to ensure alignment with the California Common Core State Standards. The adoption of revised SMRs necessitated changes to the test's structure and content.
The current version of the CSET: Foundational-Level Mathematics examination will be administered until December 28, 2014. Registration will be open through December 19. Examinees who register to take this examination must schedule a test appointment by December 26.
If you plan on taking the CSET: Foundational-Level Mathematics examination on or after December 29, 2014, please review the information for the updated version of the examination that will be administered at that time.
- Subtest I (test code 110)
- Subtest II (test code 111)
For the Single Subject Teaching Credential in Foundational-Level Mathematics, you must pass Subtests I and II . This credential authorizes teaching only in limited mathematics content areas: general mathematics, algebra, geometry, probability and statistics, and consumer mathematics.
You may register to take any one subtest in a single session.
- Subtest I: 30 multiple-choice questions and 4 constructed-response questions
- Subtest II: 30 multiple-choice questions and 4 constructed-response questions

15 additional minutes is provided to complete a nondisclosure agreement and tutorial. Any time taken for breaks is considered part of your available testing time.

A graphing calculator will be allowed for Subtest II only. Examinees must bring an approved graphing calculator to the test administration.
Subtests I and II include one or more assignments that allow you to handwrite and scan responses. See scanning instructions and the hand-draw tutorial video for information on how to use a response sheet for handwritten responses. (The instructions will be available during testing.)
Tests may include questions that are evaluated for future administrations and do not affect a candidate's score.
