CSET: Spanish

The World Languages subtests taken toward a Single Subject Teaching Credential differ from the subtests taken toward a Bilingual Authorization. For more information on certification requirements, see Tests Used Toward Certification.

CSET subtests used toward a Single Subject Teaching Credential in Spanish:

  • Spanish Subtest I (test code 145)
  • Spanish Subtest II (test code 146)
  • Spanish Subtest III (test code 147)

CSET subtests used toward a Bilingual Authorization for Spanish:

  • Spanish Subtest III (test code 147)
  • World Languages Subtest IV (test code 250)
  • Spanish Subtest V (test code 258)

You may register to take 1, 2, or 3 subtests in a single test session.

Paper-based test (PBT) only:
  • Subtest I: 40 multiple-choice questions and 3 constructed-response questions
  • Subtest II: 40 multiple-choice questions and 1 constructed-response question
  • Subtest III: 30 multiple-choice questions and 6 constructed-response questions
  • Subtest IV: 50 multiple-choice questions
  • Subtest V: 50 multiple-choice questions

Reporting time for all PBT centers is 7:30 a.m.
Any time taken for breaks is considered part of your available testing time.

Subtest III includes written, spoken, and listening constructed-response items as well as a listening multiple-choice component. Because Subtest III includes recorded components, examinees who arrive late will not be admitted.

Tests may include questions that are evaluated for future administrations and do not affect a candidate's score.

Registration Information

The CBEST and CSET paper-based tests are administered at the same time. For this reason, it is only possible to register to take either the CBEST or take one or more CSET subtests on a single paper-based test administration date.
