CSET: German
The World Languages subtests taken toward a Single Subject Teaching Credential differ from the subtests taken toward a Bilingual Authorization. For more information on certification requirements, see Tests Used Toward Certification.
CSET subtests used toward a Single Subject Teaching Credential in German:
- German Subtest I (test code 151)
- German Subtest II (test code 152)
- German Subtest III (test code 153)
CSET subtests used toward a Bilingual Authorization for German:
- German Subtest III (test code 153)
- World Languages Subtest IV (test code 250)
- German Subtest V (test code 257)
You may register to take any one subtest in a single test session.
Computer-based test (CBT) only:
- Subtest I: 40 multiple-choice questions and 3 constructed-response questions
- Subtest II: 40 multiple-choice questions and 1 constructed-response question
- Subtest III: 30 multiple-choice questions and 6 constructed-response questions
- Subtest IV: 50 multiple-choice questions
- Subtest V: 5 constructed-response questions
Review the content domains:
Subtest I: 1 hour 45 minutes
Subtest II: 1 hour 30 minutes
Subtest III: 2 hours 15 minutes
Subtests IV and V: 1 hour and 15 minutes per subtest
15 additional minutes are provided to complete a nondisclosure agreement and tutorial. Any time taken for breaks is considered part of your available testing time.
Subtests I, II, and III include one or more assignments that allow you to use special characters (e.g., diacritical marks) in your typed responses. Refer to the

Subtest III includes one or more assignments that require you to record spoken responses. Refer to the
interactive CBT tutorial for information on how to use the audio capture feature.
