(Chap. 678, Stats. 2021) amended Education Code section 44320.3 to require the Commission develop and implement a new literacy performance assessment to replace the RICA exam beginning July 1, 2025. In compliance with this statute, the Commission, along with a Literacy Design Team, redeveloped Cycle 2 into the new Literacy Cycle and Cycle 1 was redeveloped into the new Math Cycle for the Multiple Subject (MS) and Education Specialist (EdSp) Mild to Moderate Support Needs (MMSN) and Extensive Support Needs (ESN) credential areas. Additional improvements based on candidate and program feedback to the pilot and field test versions of the Math and Literacy Cycles have been integrated into all CalTPA content areas, including Single Subject (SS) and World Languages (WL). 2025–26 also marks the launch of the CalTPA versions for PK–3 ECE and EdSp-ECSE, DHH, and VI.
