CSET: Art
The California Commission on Teacher Credentialing has redeveloped the CSET Art and Music examinations to align with the 2019 Visual and Performing Arts Standards adopted by the California State Board of Education.
This version of CSET: Art has been retired and is no longer being administered.
Registration for the redeveloped CSET: Art examination is now open for testing appointments beginning November 21, 2022.
CSET: Art consists of 2 subtests:
- Subtest I (test code 140)
- Subtest II (test code 141)
Subtest II requires the submission of photographs of examinee artwork at the test center. Allow sufficient time to prepare photographic material prior to scheduling your test appointment.
You may register to take one or both subtests in a single test session.
Computer-based test (CBT) only:
- Subtest I: 50 multiple-choice questions and 4 constructed-response questions
- Subtest II: 50 multiple-choice questions and 4 constructed-response questions, including a portfolio submission
Subtests I and II include one or more assignments that allow you to handwrite and scan responses.
See scanning instructions
and the hand-draw tutorial video
for information on how to use a response sheet for handwritten responses.
(The instructions will be available during testing.)
Examinees scheduled to take Art Subtest II must bring to the test administration printed photographs of artwork as outlined in the Art Procedures Manual below. When you sign in for the test administration for which you are registered, the photographs will be checked by a test administrator. The photographs will be returned to you for use during the test. At the conclusion of your test, you will be required to submit the six photographs and submission form for scoring. Your photographs will not be returned to you.
If you register to take all subtests in a single session, you will be presented with one
subtest at a time. Subtests are individually timed and are administered in consecutive order
beginning with Subtest 1. After you complete a subtest, you will not be able to return to a subtest.
